Post #11 Nebraska Kearney vs. Washburn

The Ichabods made the long journey to face off with Nebraska Kearney for a Thursday, Friday, and Saturday series. Overall, we walked away 1-4 which was highly unexpected against this team. As told by the coaching staff, the main goal was to walk away with the wins to kick Nebraska Kearney out of the MIAA tournament completely, yet we did not succeed in doing so. As I said in my last post, not enough energy or focus was there. But there is something else I have learned through the players and coaches over this season as well as last season that is a great necessity to winning. A key to success is a positive attitude. As cheesy as it may sound if you tend to be negative, others will sense it which will lead the team in a bad direction. Positive leadership is so important at every game. If your captains fail to do their job, the team has no direction. We have had several cases of that this season. Overall, our captains have done a good job from what I can see, yet the cases that leadership has not been there, it could never be any more evident than when we are losing a game.
We are now in 8th place in the MIAA conference and continue to get better every day. When push comes to shove I think this team will show the rest of the conference what they are really made of. All I can say now is, go Bods!!!

Another home series against Rockhurst University! This series was originally scheduled at Rockhurst but had to be rescheduled due to the rain. The series started off on a beautiful Saturday afternoon with the Bods starting off with some runs. We were all around playing very well! Ending the game with a win of 10-5. Yet, day two we were not so lucky, with a final score of 7-11 the Bods struggled to keep their lead and lost due to pitching and errors. Although the loss did not hurt us, being that it was a non-conference game, it does take a hit on the coaches and the players for what they could not accomplish against a team such as this. Learning to take games seriously and how to stay focused, even if it is not the most important game you will ever play, it still extremely important and a great skill to have being an athlete in general. Focus and energy must be at a high at all times in order to gain success. Unfortunately, we did not have both for the second game, but hopefully we will leave prepared for the weekend series against Nebraska Kearney!

The Ichabods faced off with the Emporia Hornets this weekend. Starting off with a win on Friday 10-9.  We started the game off strong but lost momentum around the 4th inning, luckily gaining it back in the last few innings we pulled out the win with a hit by senior Matt Jackson! Saturday's double header at Emporia's field could easily be considered a beat down. Pulling out the first win with a score of 10-1 and a second of 5-1. We had some fantastic pitching and our hitting was spot on. Sunday's game ended in an unfortunate loss, due to lack of focus and some struggles with pitching. It didn't clearly look like our team was all there. Plus, having the opposing team cheer louder at all times was getting to everyone. We lost with a score of 5-2, although it was nice to win the majority of these games, there was still no clean sweep for the Ichabods this weekend. This weekend showed everyone what kind of talent the Ichabods truly have and what they can do when they are on the top of their game.
